Bitcoin BTC

Historical statistics for Bitcoin over 15,183 observations, from 2017-12-18 to 2026-08-28. Every table shows its sample size (n) next to the percentage.

What sets this instrument apart

  • The gap between one day's close and the next day's open fills in BTC between 49.8% and 98.9% of the time depending on the day. In a contract trading nearly 24 hours that gap is small, which is why it closes so often: it is not a tradable edge.
  • The busiest day is Monday, with an average range of 2,355.93 points, and the quietest is Thursday, with 1,863.74: a 26% difference worth accounting for when sizing the stop.
  • After three or more days in the same direction, BTC keeps going that way 48.9% of the time (n = 505). The idea that 'after three days it turns' gets checked here, not assumed.

n = 2,083 · 2017-12-18 to 2026-08-28 · exchange data

Session colour = close versus the same day's open. It does not measure whether the close held beyond the broken level. A day that breaks both sides counts in both columns.

n = 2,038 · 2017-12-18 to 2026-08-28 · exchange data

Here the gap is measured between the close and the open of whole calendar days, not against the regular session. In a contract trading nearly 24 hours that gap is small and fills far more often.

Close versus the same day's open. If both columns sit near 50%, the day of the week on its own says nothing: that is the most common result and also the most useful to know.

After an inside day, does it break the prior range?

n = 2,034 · 2017-12-18 to 2026-08-28 · exchange data

Inside day = its high and low fit within the prior day's range. Breaking out is the norm; what informs is how far this instrument sits from that norm.
